At DAMRI, we are committed to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children and vulnerable communities. Through our dedicated efforts in child protection and anti-trafficking, we strive to create a safe and nurturing environment for every child, ensuring they are free from exploitation and abuse.
Since September 2018, DAMRI has been a proud partner of the CHILDLINE 1098 service, a 24-hour free helpline for children in distress, run in collaboration with the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India, and CHILDLINE India Foundation.
Through this program, we have helped reunite lost children with their families, provided counselling for vulnerable children, and advocated for their education, health, and a safe environment.
West Bengal’s geographical location as a border state makes it a source, transit, and destination for human trafficking. DAMRI actively addresses this critical issue in Alipurduar district, a region close to the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Bhutan borders, known for high vulnerability to trafficking due to poverty, lack of livelihoods, and closed tea gardens.
⦿ Tea gardens and forest villages in Alipurduar I and II blocks
⦿ Communities in economically vulnerable and high-migration zones
⦿ Awareness sessions in areas prone to trafficking and exploitation
Our Objectives:
⦿ Raise awareness about the risks of human trafficking and the importance of safe migration
⦿ Prevent recruitment for commercial sexual exploitation and labor trafficking
⦿ Reduce the vulnerability of women and children through education and livelihood initiatives
⦿ Address the risk of STD/HIV transmission and promote health awareness
Through community engagement and awareness campaigns, we have empowered residents in high-risk areas to recognize the dangers of trafficking and take steps to protect themselves and their families.
At DAMRI, child protection and anti-trafficking are at the heart of our mission. We envision a society where every child lives in safety, dignity, and security, free from the fear of exploitation. Join us in our efforts to protect the most vulnerable and ensure a brighter future for all.
